Meet our summer intern – Alex Bruce

I’m Alex Bruce, a student at Grand Canyon University, preparing to enter my senior year, majoring in Finance with an emphasis on Personal Finance. Coming up on the college finish line, I’ve been reflecting quite a bit on how far I have come as a student, and more importantly, my aspirations as an emerging young professional. Finance, to me, isn’t just about numbers; it’s about people, trust, long-term thinking, and I’ve found my purpose in helping others learn how to secure their financial futures.

In comparing my education outside with my firsthand experience growing up in Anchorage, I noticed our community has been left out of significant financial education and resources. Whether it’s helping everyday people build better budgets, retirement plans, or manage debt, I believe financial education makes all the difference, and I want to help bring that to the people who are in the greatest need.

My interest in how money functions in the real world, not just on spreadsheets, has been foundational in my education. I know that making decisions for the long term is more important than following the latest trends. Also, it’s empowering to identify your goals and stay consistent with your plan. These principles influenced my current perspective on money, which views wealth as a tool to create stability rather than as something to flaunt.

Along the way, I’ve completed three internships that have each played a key role in shaping my path. My current internship at Alaska Wealth Advisors has taught me so much in such a short time. It’s shown me what it looks like to deliver real value to clients and how powerful meaningful guidance can be in someone’s financial journey.

I’m excited to gain more practical experience, pick the brains of role models, and ask questions as I enter my senior year. Whether it’s asset management, financial planning, or assisting companies in making wise decisions, I’m eager to see what comes next. My objective is to combine technical proficiency with sincere interpersonal relationships. A good financial plan incorporates not just the numbers, but people’s stories, and I look forward to being part of those journeys.
